Our client, a distinguished international law firm, is seeking a visionary Head of Data to spearhead their data strategy and drive the transformation of their data landscape, whilst leading a team of SME's in Data Engineering, Data Architecture, Data Science & Data Analytics.

Position Overview

As the Head of Data, you will be instrumental in aligning the firm's data strategy with its overarching business objectives. You will collaborate closely with the Head of Architecture to design and implement a target architecture that simplifies, optimises, and modernises the firm's data and technology ecosystem. This pivotal role will see you guiding material technology and data decisions, contributing to the firm's architectural governance, and driving efforts to improve cost-efficiency through a multi-year TCO strategy.#

Responsibilities

  • Create and own a comprehensive data strategy that aligns with the firm's business goals

  • Lead and mentor the Data Engineering and Data Science and Analytics teams, fostering a culture of continuous learning

  • Work with the Head of Architecture to develop a target architecture that simplifies and modernises the data and technology landscape

  • Contribute to the firm's architectural governance, including participation in the Technology Architecture Board (TAB)

  • Support efforts to improve non-FTE cost through the development and maintenance of a multi-year TCO strategy

  • Transition the data capability into the firm's Target Operating Model

  • Collaborate with the Head of Platforms to optimise the existing data platform and transition its ongoing support

  • Partner with the Interim Product leader to develop a data product roadmap, including the decommissioning of legacy products and the development of low-code alternatives

  • Develop the AI strategy and roadmap for the firm

  • Lead the Data Governance function to identify and mitigate data risks and improve data governance capabilities

  • Shape the Data function into a Centre of Data Excellence and the hub of data leadership across the firm

  • Stay updated with the latest industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in data and analytics

  • Work with senior leadership to identify and develop data-related opportunities

  • Establish and lead a Data & MI Community of Practice supporting data product delivery

  • Communicate and enforce data and reporting standards, serving as a liaison between technical and business teams

Requirements

  • Proven experience in designing data strategies from business requirements

  • Ability to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical audiences

  • Experience leading a team of data subject matter experts

  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to inspire and influence stakeholders at all levels

  • Experience in the legal or professional services industries is highly desirable

  • Hands-on experience with SQL, Data Orchestration Tools, and Power BI

  • Knowledge and experience in meeting Data Governance requirements

  • Experience with Agile delivery methodologies

  • Demonstrated personal and professional integrity

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
